An Early Learning Community Conscious Discipline Experience

The Early Learning Task Force continues on its path to actively build a more cohesive early learning community through implementation of the Conscious Discipline model in Manatee Country early learning classrooms.

The two day professional development event held on January 4th and 5th, was not a workshop, but an experience in which the concepts and principles of Conscious Discipline came to life with real examples, real practice and real connections.  This collaborative effort between Manatee County Schools. the Manatee Early Learning Coalition and Head Start of Manatee County empowers adults to consciously respond to daily conflict, transforming it into an opportunity to teach critical life skills to children.

Conscious Discipline is a method that allows teachers to approach conflict situations with a proactive approach rather than a reactive approach.  All conflicts should be viewed as a teachable opportunity.  Conscious Discipline is a longtime leader in the integration of classroom management with social-emotional learning, utilizing everyday events as the curriculum and addressing the adult’s emotional intelligence as well as the child’s.

Conscious Discipline is evidence-based, and was named as a national model for character education by the Florida State Legislature.
