Our Soar in 4 pre kindergarten, kindergarten, first and second grade teachers were invited to participate in a drama, visual arts and language arts professional development workshop in the Van Wezel’s education room for 3 hours on Saturday, September 15th. The teachers explored how to integrate vocabulary and movement, zoom into text details, sequence and engage in character exploration using the 3 book series by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin. The day was designed to assist educators who wish to best prepare their students to attend Van Wezel Schooltime Performances and bring arts based learning to their classrooms. Our educators participated in learning modules to take the text engagement to the next level with detailed arts based lesson plans. Each teacher received a copy of the text series for their classroom. Our TOPPs (Teacher Opportunity Progression Program) para professionals were also invited to participate. TOPPs is a collaborative program with the State College of Florida that provides a support co-hort for Manatee County paraprofessionals to earn a bachelor degree in early childhood education. Our Soar in 4 teachers were engaged and learned many new strategies for classroom read alouds and how to integrate theatrical performance to bring stories alive.
