Soar in 4 Flock Leaders, Facilitators and Supporters were invited to participate in a learning and sharing circles focusing on the book The Power of Presence by Joy Thomas Moore.
This investment in our community was made possible by the Patterson Foundation on behalf of the Suncoast Campaign for Grade Level Reading.
As the mother of Wes Moore, whose best selling memoir about overcoming the obstacles that face a fatherless young black man, Joy is often asked: How did you do it? How do you balance parenting, work and self-care when you don’t have a partner to pick up the slack? How do you connect with a child when you can’t always be there? Joy’s answer is “presence.” We can’t always be physically there for our children, but the power of presence can help us to be a voice in the back of their minds that guides them through difficult times.
In the Power of Presence Joy explores seven pillars of presence–heart, faith, mind, courage, financial freedom, values, and connectedness–that all parents and our community can use to positively influence their children. Using compelling stories from women who have been there and practical advice on everything from savings accounts to mindfulness, this book is a compassionate look at what it takes to raise great kids.
Soar in 4 will be using this text as a tool to evaluate the effectiveness of our program in reaching our targeted audience. We will be offering 3 book circle groups.
