Dr. Sheila Halpin collaborates with Cory Bernaert at the Art Center. Cory is a kindergarten teacher at Freedom Elementary School. Soar in 4 allows professionals to collaborate and connect with others over the joy of creative learning. Cory provided a creative and challenging opportunity for young readers to become engaged in their own learning. The activity involved children tapping their hand, elbow and shoulder as they learned to break a word into parts. This is particularly effective because children use different parts of their brain to say the syllables and move their body at the same time. This is an important skill that helps them to get ready for reading later.
